Re: porsche..was 0-60 SB bilstiens, now a comparison

Porsche - there is no Substitute.

I presently own a 68 911, an 83 944 (making into a track car),
an 88 Scirocco 16V, And about 6 other Mcs. foreign cars.

If you have ever driven a 944 (especially a turbo) you will realize that
there really isn't any comparison between a Corrado and A Porsche.

The 944 Was Designed from the get-go to be fast, where as the Corrado 
(now don't take any offense, a Corrado is a nice car in its own right) Is 
a souped up Golf A-2 chassis. Ft wheel drive is nice, but you need rear 
wheel (or all wheel) drive to go *really* fast. 

There are alot of +'s and -'s to both cars-

944 (NT)-
+ Ft engine, rear transmission,  49/51 weight distribution
Very low center of gravity, Big brakes, tires, HD everything
Built to go fast for extended periods of time. One of the best handling cars of all time.
You can get a decent used 944 for around 4-5000. (non turbo)


- -  Hard to get in and out of, nominal heat, Poor visibility, Timing belts (2)
a Major job, Parts rather expensive, but available used pretty cheap.
Can be frustrating to work on but you get used to it.

Corrado-
 + Fast, fun, hold their value quite well. Good in the snow, good heat.
More of an everyday car. a wreck is almost worth as much as a whole car.
can hold 4 people comfortably

- - Expensive, G-lader problems (at no less than $1000 to fix,)
More of an everyday car. what else?

it is like comparing apples to oranges.
it is often said in the Porsche world that a used 944 turbo (951)
is the fastest car you can buy under $10,000
