WE HAVE START!
Well, either the starter is bad or there is something wrong with the wiring.
Right off hand if the battery cable is connected to the top lug on the
solenoid and there is no possible connection between the top lug and the
bottom lug (an errant wire strand or two) then I'd say the solenoid was bad.
As Peter said, get a replacement for the whole thing.
Don't Sciroccos just suck sometimes?(or maybe it's just the parts suppliers
for rebuilt parts!)
