9A block from Audi 88
Ok, so far I've come up with two codes but in different configs, there's the 3A "bubble block" in both 8V and 16V config.
Autotech differentiates 9A and 3A for the pistons though they're the same bore and stroke the part numbers are different
http://www.autotech.com/prod_engine_piston.htm
This page shows a directory with only the 3A listed for the 2.0 16V and an ACE transmission
http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=afb3
This company lumps all the 16V's together for head gaskets

Some confusion as someone suggests putting a 2.0 16V engine code ACE in for a swap

now I'm questioning everything. I don't know what engine is what.

But this is not the same 9A as the VW block, right? And let's not forget
there's a tranny with that code too. What were they thinking?
