My '88 16V 020 does the same thing (I think), with a relatively new 14000 mile clutch in it. I notice it gets worse as the car warms up. When both putting in and letting out the clutch, the pedal is sticky and the clutch moves in a series of small (or large, once warm), jolts. I can actually "hear" this "stick-tion". I halfway assumed the cable was doing this out of old age (don't know, it is likely original) - but thought it could be a situation of it being overly preloaded (is the housing adjustable, a la bicycle brake cable??? must be...). That would also be consitant with further decrease in performance with increase in temperature. So, for the price (???) and it's likely age, I will most likely replace the cable.

Does anyone out there know when your clutch cable is
going out on a 16v ? Mine is acting weird like it
doesnt let out smooth and If I let it out to fast the
car kinda jumps , what about the clutch going out ?
But it doesnt slip at all , I replaced the clutch
cable on my 8v and the new one was very smooth . Any
sugestions anybody ? Thanks -
