ICM/coil donor question

The ICM from most any 4cyl VW with CIS should work(assuming you have CIS).  The coil from a 16v or early GTI would work, but I'm not sure about the Passat or later GTI's(from '88 on).  From the sounds of it you have no spark, last time I had no spark on my 8v it turned out to be a broken timing belt.
