The trick to swapping starters?
Ok, I've now done enough starter swaps to last me a lifetime of Rocco
ownership - last night I swapped in the starter with the heat problems to
replace the one that was swapped in at Cincy which replaced the one I just
put back in again.
Still with me? :P Ok, last night I had the same problem I did at Cincy.
The starter came out easily enough, but when putting the other one back in,
one hole didn't lign up. I could get either the top or bottom. Both times
the motor was twisted forwards on its axis just enough.
I didn't jack up the car this time ... just a teeny bit to get a second jack
under the pan, thinking it would keep the holes aligned if the motor
couldn't sag.
Ok, so is there a better way to swap starters .. to make sure the holes stay
aligned? I've done it in 30 mins before .. now it takes 2+ hours every time.
And I have to do it once more to swap in the new one next week. grrrr
