Air Compressor - what to buy?

Hi all, I just got a nice unexpected bonus and was thinking an air
compressor would be a nice thing to buy.  What brands should I look at and
what specs should I look for?  Upright or horizontal?  Who makes good tools
for the air compressor and are there any brands of tools or compressors that
I should look out for?
