I like to have the radio powered with out needing the key, but that's me.
In your case your radio will need to have two leads coming out the back-
One (prob. RED) for full on Power, and another, (who knows what color)
that keeps a trickle of electricity running though it for station
presets and the clock, etc. Only you, who have the radio in hand, can
determine which these two wires are. Maybe the manufacturer can help
online, if there is no sticker on the radio itself.
That said, what you want is a good source of fused raw 12v & and another
source of switched 12v (by definition also fused). I would suggest you
get a good length of some stout red wire, a connector or two and an
inline fuse and run it through the rubber grommet on the firewall
directly to the hot side of the battery. Be sure to place that inline
fuse up close on the battery end of the wire. Connect the other end to
the radios low power input, the one that keeps things running even when off.
Now you will need to tap a source of switched power and here it gets
specific to your car/year and having those Bentley/Haynes Hieroglyphics,
er schematics is the way to go. You are looking to tap a 15 lead, this
is usually only on when the Ign switch is ON.
If you want to run it the way I suggested at 1st then you would twist
the two power wires I discussed together and connect them to that new
fused red wire you ran to the battery.
