Well, first of all, a 1.8T swap into an A1 is not an easy task. From
what I understand, you'd need a non-drive-by-wire engine for it to be
anywhere near easy to do. There aren't many of those around; early
New Beetles and A4's I think. Plus there have to be issues of frame
strength that I haven't figured out how they are addressed..you
wouldn't want your monster engine ripping itself out of the front of
your car now would you?
Building & tuning an 8v engine or swapping in a 16v is far easier. Why a 1.8T?
You planning to do this work yourself, or hire a place like Adrenelin
Motorsports to do it?
The general equation for this problem is that money and speed are
proportional. Put another way, "How fast do you want to go? How much
do you have to spend?"
