Originally, the fuel pump relays plugged directly into the fuse box.

This was bad.

Lots of current thru there tended to melt internal traces.

So there was a recall to put in an "extension harness."  The harness 
plugs into the fusebox, and "extends" wires up to an external relay 
plug on top of the fuse box.

Sounds like you have this; there is a picture of it in the Bentley, 
if you want to be sure.
