could be bad connection or a short in one of the speaker wires. Possibly a
problem with the volume control.

usually alternator whine is a ground loop problem. Try changing out the
ground going to the radio with a 14 ga wire going directly to a good
grounding location on bare metal behind the dash. I believe they also sell
a little inline filter capacitor that blocks out alternator or other
interference.
