Re: audio(sub placement)
Ok, here are my thoughts:Volume compeltley depends on how well
you do the install.. If you do it right, you take out everything in
there, and then plug up all the holes (duct tape, or bondo in the
holes) then dynamat the whole area, preferably the whole trunk
area(under the carept, under that foam crap on the dies ect. then
get some automotiv carpet(cheap stuff avaiable at like kmart type
places) cover the whole area, then mount some 1/2 inch or so
MDF(medium density fiberboard) as a base for your trunk.. into this
you drill out the size whole you need for the woofer and mount it on
the baord.. the board should be sealed down tot he floor, the
dynomat will keep the rattles out.. the size of the enclosure(sealed)
that you have created will just be the area ofa cylinder with
dyameter, whatever it is and hight wahtever you measure. My
suggestion as to size is a 10" woofer. *" sound tighter in general,
and 12" sound boomier but go louder, for my ears i like 10's the
best.
Another idea that i am toying with right now, is you go to a junk
yard, get a back fold down seat out of an old roc.. take tha
cardboard crap off the back, replace it with some 1/2" MDF and
mount 2 10" subs there, or actually even 8";s could be mounted
there. you would have some sweet sounds then. WIth either of
these systms you could use 4x6 coax bostona coustic quality or
so rear speakers in stock locations, and maybe go to 5 and a1/4"
fronts with seperates(i.e. mount the tweeter up on the door)
this is what i am doing over this summer, i already made the rear
seat thing, i just need to buy the woofers and cut the wholes,
should sound better than anything else.
any other questions feel free to ask.. (my reasons for this stuff is
that i am an audio freak, but need a) trunk space and b) stock look
to not encourage thieves.)
good luck, feel free to ask if any other questions,
(and yes i know a whole bunch on the list will bitch and moan to
me about the weight addition of the dynamat and the MDF, but for
me, when i have long trips i can deal with the increase in weight
and the increase in sound quality and lack of vibrations in the back
:)
