Euro lights

I just got a set up European lights for my 16v.  They really are going to
look nice on the car.  I have a question for anyone who's done this
conversion.  Did you have to remove any plastic bumper cover material from
under the lights to get them to sit low enough?  I can't see how to get
the attaching screws to line up without doing this.  I'd hate to cut a
slot for the holder only to find out there was a better way.  Any info
would be appreciated.  Thanks!
