Guy Z needs help that I'm not qualified to answer. I'm not sure if
he's on this list or if he got my name from the newsgroup, but maybe
one of you more experienced 'Rocco owners can steer him in the right
direction. I'm sure he'd be grateful for any help. Thanks.

I thought you might be able to help in solving a problem that I have
on an 85 Scirocco manual transmission. I have just purchased a
shifter bearing assembly and replaced the old one. I am using Robert
Bentley Service Manual to guide myself through the adjustment of the
linkage but have been unsuccessful in getting it right. When I
removed the old shift bearing assembly most of the plastic parts
within were shot and had fallen out. In the Bentley Manual it shows a
spacer ring that looks like plastic and is separate from the bearing
assembly. From the picture it looks like it fits between the bearing
assembly and the lever housing. I did not get one when I picked up
the new shifter bearing assembly (if one exist). The manual does not
mention the spacer ring other than when it is shown in the diagram. I
was wondering if this would be my problem in not being able to get
the adjustments right on the shifter?
Something else, after a 100 mile drive, the housing for the air
filter started sucking oil from the hose that comes out of the valve
cover that recycles the hydrocarbons for air pollution. Why? I
changed the oil and know everything seems fine. Strange!
Any advise?
Guy
