pulled the hood latch and....nothing!

And if it's still attached in the front so as to release when pulled?
Either fab up a hook-like "special tool" from a coat hanger wire (which can
also be used for sunroof repairs) or do the long cable tie on the release
cable once you do get it open and protrude it through the grille POS Jetta
style. "pull'n pop". I still don' think the kid's POS hood release works,
but I don' think it has an intact grille to get in the way anymore. That
would be until you get it fixed though...
