What type refrigerant came on our cars? I too want my AC back
Okay People. Here's the scoop on refrigerant substitutes for R-12
Frigc-FR-2 contains 39% of 124 59% 134a and 2% butane
FreeZone RB-276 19% 142b 79%134a
R-406a 55% HCFC-22 41% HCF142b
Autofrost GHG-X4/ 51% HCFC-22 28.5%HCFC124 16.5% HCFC 124b
These are not well known substitutes for R-12
Freeze -12 is 20% 142b and 80% 134a People think and use it as a drop in
refrigerant but it is not.Special fittings are required. If you have to go to
that much trouble to change to a refridgerant that contains 80% R-134 why
not go ahead and convert to all R134a.
I am not a AC man but I do work with AC freon recovery equipment and ask a
lot of questions from AC people.I have had people tell me that R134a does
not cool as well as R12 but that has not been my experience. I flushed and
changed to R134 and I can not tell any diffrence. This was done on a 90
Nissan pick up and I have not had any problems with any of the components.I
am not advocating this procedure. It was done as a cheap fix and I have been
using it for about 4 years with no problems.
It all may blow up tomorrow but so far so good.It is not a daily driver so
that may be a factor.
There are some other subs but these seem to be the main ones.
Good luck,
ole blue

Freeze 12 is what was used to replace the R12 in our Mercedes after some
a/c work about 3-4 years ago. I've had zero problems and the efficiency
seems to be even better than the original. No seal replacement or purging
was required. http://freeze-12.com/
