Collapsing US bumpers: safe?
This is something I've been tinkering with for a while now. My best solution
was to use the aluminum bumpers off my 84 GTi -with brackets- and the skin
fits like a glove. I screwed up when I went to bolt on the skin, and missed
the part where the silver stripe goes, so I can't really hide the bolts very
well now.
I thought about using the tabs to reattach factory style, but decided it was
too much trouble. I even got the metal end pieces off the old rebar, but I
don't think I'll be using those either. With the attachment points on the
end of the skin to the car, it seems fine.
The bumpers are still benches, but when I can figure out how to address the
ends at the wheel well, I'll probably shorten the brackets.

Now here's a question too:
I've had them off for a while now and have had to move them around a
couple times - they are HEAVY!
Anything I can do to shave a few pounds? I could swear I've seen a
post here or on vortex about it... time to go digging I guess...
