Fuel Pump Tests

I've ?bench tested? in the tank fuel pumps with a DC power supply for 2 or 3 seconds without any problems. I can't speak for testing the primary pump.

If you look at them assuming they are cooled by the fuel running through them, low fuel flow rates, i.e. at idle, provide minimal cooling and thus can't be much of an issue. I can't think of many other potential issues.

Is there a way to do any bench tests on a puel pump to see if it is
working before installing into the car?  Will running the pump dry for
a couple of seconds off a 12V source to hear if it still spins damage
it?  TIA
