Blinking Light!!!!

It was not overheating. That is what confused me. The needle was just below
the light where it normally is. That is why I thought I had to be losing
coolant. I could not smell any or see any place where it could have been
escaping from. The only thing I could see when I opened the hood was the
crack in the upper hose at the radiator flange. Once that was taken care of
and the fluids topped... I was expecting it to stop. No dice.

I know the t-stat is not stuck. I have flow through the system as evidenced
by back fill into the expansion tank. The fan is working as should be. Not
sure what else it could be.

I get the blinking light from time to time, especially when first turning
the car on cold. Each time the temperature needle is never in the hot, it is
always just where it should be but the gauge is blinking.

Are you sure the car was overheating?

So, Friday I am driving the 16V 2.0L Rocc back from an Appraisal on Kiawah
Island. I get almost home when the light starts blinking in the water temp
gauge. I pull over and check for leaking coolant, burst hose, level in the
expansion tank. nothing immediately wrong, but did notice that the upper
hose is showing a break right at the clamp near the radiator. I drop the
hood an head on home thinking this is going to be an easy fix. (Cut the 1/2
inch off the end of the hose and order a new one from potter people this
week and add fluids.) Well. Not so. I get the hose cut and manage to loose
very little coolant. I start her up, add fluid get everything where all
should be well. Check the gauges... Still blinking. Check the levels,
squeeze the upper hose to burp the system, shut down and restart several
times... Still blinking. Try a few more times squeezing, filling, burping
(the line, I know what your thinking,) restarting... Same thing. Blinking
light in water temp gauge.

Any ideas?

BTW, as I passed the air field on Johns Island I thought it would be cool to
have to pick up a couple of you guys that are fliers on the list. Weekends
are awesome right now. Perfect weather. Have room, Spare Roccs...

TIA, for any help.
