Julie, it has always been easy to bypass the ignition switch in cars -
it is, after all, only a multi-pole switch - not rocket science.  This
is exactly the reason why the steering column lock was invented - to
make it a little bit harder for someone to drive off with your wheels.

Now days of course, on board smart alarms, coded keys and what not make
it a bit trickier.
