Thunderbird does have a built-in anti-virus feature, but
it isn't very good. I use PopFile (freeware), which uses
a Naive Bayes classifier to filter out 99.5+% of spam.
It dumps the spam into a folder, so I can double check it
(visually scan the subject/from lines) for mis-scanned
mail before trashing it. The mis-scanned stuff can be
reclassified into the proper folder.
