flashing coolant light, levals good ,what gives ??
well, if your coolent temp is well within normal range and the LED is
flashing, then chances are, your not overheating. But here is something to
check. Since you have a 16v, you have that lovely collent level sensor in
the expansion tank. Pull the electrical connector off the sensor and you
will prollie find a bit of coolent/water in it. These sensors develop small
cracks in the probe arms that extend down into the expansion tank.
Eventually due to pressure, some of the coolent will work it's way up and
get into the connection shorting it out and giving a false reading which
turns on the LED. If this appears to be the case, go to
http://www.parts4vws.com (the great potter people's website) and order a
new coolent level sensor. If memory serves it's something like $15 or less.
When it arrives it will come with a new gasket as well. Remove the old,
install the new and tear on down the road as normal. This has been my
experience with this issue. I'm sure others will speak up if I've left
something out.
