thermostat problem
I'll second that.
I'm driving the beater Roc (not the beater Toyota as I should be) because
the wife's Grand Am is back in the body shop to fix some horrible problems
from the rear end smash that were already supposed to be fixxed so she has
the Toyota.
Anyway.......Went out and started her on a -20F wind chill morning to get
her warmed up before I took it to work, went and tossed the ball a bit
more for the dog's morning constitutional, then put the dog in, fed it,
and went out to go to work.
Since the weather was sooooo frigid, I'm keeping my eye on the H2O temp
gauge to see when I can blast the heat since my still wet head and temps
are starting to frost the windows. It gets there and I proceed to
blast.
Cold air.
Now the windows are clearing a little, or at least holding
steady and I'm eyeing the temp gauge REALLY closely waiting for it to
start overheating, but it never does! Goes to ontop of the LED and stays
like normal! But still no heat!!!!!
Get to work. Park in the parking garage on the sun side and go into work.
Get done and drive home and things are fine.
The moral of this story is:
Whenever you start your car on frigid mornings to preheat it, make sure
the interior fan is OFF! I didn't and the amount of antifreeze in the
cooling system was enough to keep it from freezing during the night, but
not keep it from freezing when frigid air is being forced through the
heater core.
I'm just happy I didn't let it go long enough for it to split
a line somewhere and strand me on a 9th level of hell day!
I've already replaced a heater core once (cracked from a non-platform
tow!) and never want to do that again!
First stop on the way home was to get some more antifreeze!

Gibson's Springtime Song (to the tune of "Deck the Halls"):
'Tis the season to chase mousies (Fa la la la la, la la la la)
Snatch them from their little housies (...)
First we chase them 'round the field (...)
Then we have them for a meal (...)
Toss them here and catch them there (...)
See them flying through the air (...)
Watch them fly and hear them squeal (...)
Falling mice have great appeal (...)
See the hunter stretched before us (...)
He's chased the mice in field and forest (...)
Watch him clean his long white whiskers (...)
Of the blood of little critters (...)
