Well I cant complain... 
I got BOTH sets of 4x6's and 2 sets of plasma blue rally bulbs for $150
CAN !!!
The light is 100X better than the stock setup.
BTW .. 
Toucan Industries(Eurolite) has the round lenses as well ;)
(Not affiliated with them in any way... but im really happy with their
products and how good quality they are compared to what ou are paying
for them!!)

The fella that did write-ups for VWVortex did an article on this...  HID
set-
up, although he said that they are no longer available...  :-(  However,

allegedly 'Cullen' on Vortex can get you a set of HIDs for the Mk1...

I see that some others have had difficulty in contacting him, so bear
that in 
mind...

Beyond that, I have had experience with Wagners' Brite Light.  It is a
higher 
wattage Halogen, and I have had very good results, although I definately
would 
not mind other options, esp. if they were as cheap as the Wagners...
