OT: VW Dealership

Somewhere after the first Motronic on VW's they replaced the distributor and coil with a coilpack assembly. The computer controller grounds each one of the packs when it decides to fire a cylinder, then when it removes ground the coil charges again just like a conventional coil. The difference is that there's no rotor, the computer controls firing directly. Usually they run one coil pack to two cylinders, the two cylinders that are opposite each other in firing.

And no, they have come down for VW's, about $180 for the three coil pack for VR6 12v or $124 jobber price that I get from NAPA. If you need details let me know, I can hook you up.
