NO, don't pry anything!  With the door open, there should be a phillips head 
screw in the door edge that at the same height of the door handle.  It holds 
the handle in the door.  Remove this screw.  Then push the door handle forward 
(towards the hinge of the door), the handle should slide forward and release 
itself from the sheetmetal.  That's what I can remember.  Good luck.
