balancing.

I'd worry if you lighten too much, or didn't balance, or if something else
goes south. I saw what happens firsthand when a flywheel goes, it was very
ugly, and rightfully should have been a fatality.

The flywheel grenaded, no idea why, at the end of the quarter, with the car
doing probably a bit over 100mph, it was a ProStreet car, so I'd say about
an 11 second car. Anyway, the larger bits hit the hood with enough force to
open it onto the windsheild, which it shattered, and there was enough force
to drop the glass sunroof into the driver's lap. SO he's doing 100, with an
excellent veiw of the pretty paint on his hood (blind), with a pile of glass
on his lap, no doubt wondering what the hell happened, crossing the
centreline, and trying to get a few "Hail Mary's" in while he still has
time. He spewed every fluid and a lot of metal shards on both sides of the
track (shut things down for over an hour) and somehow got the car stopped
without hitting anything. Needless to say, he didn't hang around to
speculate on the cause of the failure. But the rad was bent out a good 4 -
6", the wiring under the hood was all chopped up ( I didn't see that, the
hood was closed), and oil/tranny fluid was streaming up over the top of the
back of the fender. I'm guessing he'll have a scatter sheild next time
around, but he needs a new car, that one was trashed.
But he was really lucky. There's your little horror story for Halloween.
