16V burns quart of oil per 1000miles

Brian,
May be acceptable for some.
Not for me.
My 16v uses approximately one quart per 5000 miles and I think that is far too much....it obviously need a rebuild.(200K)
My two Chevy small blocks use zero. 
 That's zero with one 0.
 One has 60K, the other 8K.  That's the way I think it should be, even with an engine designed nearly 50 years ago.
This is my position only, not saying you are wrong in what you will accept because you are not....just two differing opinions, eh?

  I call foul, all manufacturers have a consumption chart for their engines.
  And I believe acceptable comsumption for VW is 1 quart per 1000 to

  No engine that is properly built with good parts, and is in good shape will
  use oil.
  Period.
  Something is not right with an engine that burns or leaks oil.

    I put a used 2L block in my 16V and it went goes thru about 1qt per 1000
    miles.  TT says that the 2L goes thru more oil because the oil rings are
