Odometer fix question...

Yup,
I had read about his symptom and the procedure to fix it on this guys

And it was EXACTLY as he described it.  Take your time and carefully
tear into it and you will in short order see what is (not)happening in
there.  What William said is what I found as well.  There is a gear that
is only pressed on to a 1/8" or so steel shaft. The hole in the gear
splits and there is now not enough of a tight fit on the shaft and like
you said it just spins in the gear. Esp. when there is extra resistance
like when it tries to past .9  Anyway, I did the JB weld thing but you
have to be carefull, if that stuff oozes a bit it will "weld" other
pieces that are not supposed to be.  You'll see when you get in there.

Usually what happens is that the gear seperates from the metal spindle
it's
attached to.  So the spindle keeps on spinning and the gear sits still
reulting in no miles ticking by.  I was able to just swap out my speedo
for
a perfectly working one but I've heard that you can use an assortment of
different glues or putties to do the job.  Maybe some JB weld or
something
like that.
