So here is an interesting question...
I understand that the blue wire runs from battery (+), through instrument
panel/warning light, and on to the alt. It brings +12v to the alt. The
current from this wire is used to get the alt going, called "exciting" the
circuit. Without an initial current like this the alt will never get
going. It's a good bit like priming a pump (plagiarized from a previous post).
So why does my A2 Jetta start up and charge without the need to rev the
motor up to get the excitation voltage my Scirocco requires. I don't have
the Bentley for the Jetta yet to see if there are any differences but it
looks like the same alternator and basically the same instrument cluster
