The Porsche 928 also used the same linerless high silicone content
aluminum for its cylinder bores. You know how well that worked....
Also, the 512 c.i. Chevys used in the CanAm in the early 70's making
over 800 HP used the linerless high silicone content aluminum for its
cylinder bores. You know how well that worked....
The Vega engine had cooling problems. That was the root cause of it's
reputation, not the linerless block.

The Vega blocks were cast in high-silicone aluminum. They would
carefully acid etch the cylinders, which would remove a small amount of
aluminum, leaving the silicone
as the wear surface. You know how well that worked....
