16V Upper stress bar, eating crow

I must apologise for a statement I made a few weeks back when this topic 
came up. I have a nice new (to me) Eurospeed 16V stress bar and have 
discovered that in fact it DOES NOT fit over an 8V engine, not in a MkI 
anyways. It will fit over the Rabbit's diesel engine, and perhaps that extra 
bit of metal / deeper fenders issue Mark and I have been discussing is part 
of the reason, but it just does not clear the throttle mechanism as some 
astute listers pointed out. I'm sorry if I mislead anyone.
So I am left with what to do with the bar, either give it to my son as a 
Christmas present, or "borrow" that 2L 16V he left laying around, what to 
do, what to do...
