Please help, coolant in oil

1. Are you using coolant more than usual?
2. Oil analysis would be able to determine the presence of coolant in =
the oil. You can probably find this service at a truck (as in 18 =
wheeler) service shop or lubricant dealer. Cost should be about $12 a =
shot and yes ask how they need the sample (my dealer does best  in the =
midst of a warm drain). Simple, positive and fairly quick way to get =
pointed in the right direction. You could burn that much in exploratory =
gasketry.

    This is on my '83 1.8JH; rebuilt about 11K ago.  Head gasket =
replaced about 3K ago(had to remove head because of broken exh. stud, =
not because gasket was bad).  Recent compression test showed even =
135-140psi across all cylinders.  Absolutely no smoke from the exhaust.

    When replacing the oil pump about a week ago I found a thin film of =
coolant along the bottom of the oil pan, thin enough that it was =
undetectable even by draining the oil, the only way I noticed was after =
removing and cleaning the pan. =20
    Now the problem seems to be worsening.  My crankcase breather hose =
is full of ugly oil "milk"(coolant filled), but when I push my dipstick =
down all the way to the bottom of the pan there is no coolant on the tip =
of it(I push it all the way down after removing that plastic thing).  I =
removed the valve cover and the oil in the head looks normal, great =
even.  What is going on?  What should I do?  How can I test to see if =
it's the oil to water cooler?  How harmful is it to drive with this =
little amount of coolant in there?

    Last but not least, when I removed the oil pan I also found a very =
very small chunk of cast iron, presumably from the block.  From it's =
appearance it looks like it was sheared off from overtightening a bolt =
somewhere, but I'm not sure where.  Could it be a cracked/broken block?  =
