Nope, it'd probably make things easier unless you have small hands, but it's not necessary. There's a full description in the bently. There are 4 or 6 screws you undo and the whole box pulls out. Then you have to reach around and disconnect the plugs and such. Bently says to remove the steering wheel, which would probably make extraction easier and definitely make putting it back in easier, but it's not necessary. Dan
