Wolfsburg Model Differences?

i had a 1984 1.8l 8 valve wolfsburg scirocco with a toilet bowl exhaust.  i sure miss her.

On the similar lines of the previous post looking for the differences in 16v models, what made the Wolfsburg a Wolfsburg?  Were 83 the first year?  Was it the early introduction of the 1.8L?  Big valve hydro or solid head?  Toilet bowl exhaust excluded?
