16v model year differences [Now BMW Engines]
Yeah, a nice V8 - even normally aspirated - would be awesome in an E30
M3. Then again, the M20 in the 325 is so smooth that I wouldn't trade it
for anything else!
Unfortunately, the first couple generations of the 24V inline 6s aren't
nearly as smooth as the original 12V motors. It's a shame, because I liked
the E36 except for the M50 motors. Thankfully the M50TU 2.8 was
better... But even in my E39, it's still a rough motor compared to the
M20. Thankfully the M52 motors in the E46 are finally back up to the
smoothness standards set by the M20 -- now if they could just get the sound
back! :)
