4K or Not 4K

Julie,

Yes, you *could* use a 0.71 for the 5th gear in the 4k, but I
would highly recommend against it. My personal preference of course.
The 4k uses a stock 0.89 5th... Just dropping down to a 0.80
will still allow you to have good acceleration on the highway without
the high RPM's that the stock 4k 0.89 would have produced at a given speed.
Dropping all the way down to a 0.71 (FF 5th) is quite extreme. It would
be a *huge* drop from 4th to 5th! You may like it, but I know that I
wouldn't... here's why...
I built a "4k" for my mk2 16v...I chose a 0.75 5th. Big drop from 4th
to 5th, definitely not a natural gear change. It is nice on the highway
above 70 mph, but any slower and I have little torque available for
acceleration. It's a terrible feeling to be cruising at 60 mph coming up
to a hill and feel the need to go into 4th.
It is really a personal preference I suppose...

Oh, and the question about beating Ben in a race... highly unlikely. ;)~
(but doing the 4k tranny swap would sure help)

Ben
