cooling fan?

yeah,,. no fan = overheating on standstill, driving pushes cold air into
radiator...

I found that my car warmed up to dead on the LED in about 8 minutes. the
car had been sitting for 2-3 hours so i dunno if that's enough time to cool
down or what, but that doesn't sound too bad to me. I tested the connector
again and the fan and it worked after replacing a fuse in the fuse panel.
Could the fan not turning on cause my car to almost overheat in traffic? is
there any sure fire way to know that it is the switch on the bottom of the
radiator? tia
