Yes.
Without a flowbench and several heads to experiment with, you will most
certainly do more harm than good. All you can safely do (without having the
above) is polish, but that is a lot of work for very little benefit.
Forget the porting; port match instead...tell everyone "I ported it
myself"... and be happy. :)
