well, pull up a chair if you want to see what i've been doing for the past
couple of months. there is alot of various tech info/pics in here, i've tried to
seperate stuff by "**" to make skimming easier:
** fuel reservoir nightmares **
that pain in the arse fuel reservoir/filter that we all love to hate:
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image58.htm
what happens to said reservoir after 15 years:
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image61.htm
guts of said reservoir (for the curious cheapass (tm) in all of us):
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image64.htm
small orifice for air return to tank (this goes out the top line):
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image70.htm
the reservoir-to-main pump hard line (shy about 10 layers of rust):
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image66.htm
pitting found:
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image68.htm

nicely rebuilt reservoir, ready for install:

(note the clip in the back as well)

better seen here:

when an 8v distributor cap gets old (difficult pic, the blue line in the center
is actually an arc going to the metal distributor shroud):
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image77.htm
** brysons 8v fresh air fan rebuild **
the culpret:
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image78.htm
the brush that got hot and melted out of its carrier:
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image79.htm
empty rain tray:

took the opportunity to capture details on a never-touched interior vacuum
system:

** (slight ot) jetta **
kept getting water inside somehow, found the driver side c-pillar sunroof drain
hose looking like this:
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image86.htm
not sure what birned through, but nothing some super-glue and a bic pen couldnt
fix:

...ron would be so proud of me :)
lightning shot of the rieger (it was in fact pitch black out)

** rear poly bushing install with minimal effort **
parts needed:
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image104.htm
arrange like so:
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image106.htm
crank... crank... crank...

overview of everything:

** the new place **
the first thing i looked at:
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image110.htm
rieger arrives with its first trailer-load of stuff:
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image111.htm
just how much stuff can you fit in the back of the green monster? (note: no
trailer this time):
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image113.htm
neighborhood welcome committee (they dont bring food, they ask for it):
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image114.htm
** big al's garage **
cycling some buddies cars through before the twin metalwork begins:
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image116.htm
hrm... what car is that? the buddies e30m3 of course:
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image119.htm
(i love that car)
...note the workbench and pegboard i threw up there...
** recent rieger work **
i rebuilt an a/c vac controller (the rieger has had a/c, but no damper control,
ever)
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image120.htm
once that was in, my speakers arrived, meaning i had to take it all apart again.
guess what was in teh back of the rieger???
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image121.htm
the 2 center ones of course. i think the other 2 will do much better.
rieger pieces go flying:
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image122.htm
pile-o-factory wiring (plus some prev owner crapola):
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image123.htm
interior in shambles:
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image124.htm
and done (also, better view of workbench and stuff):
http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/pics/0-allyn/imagepages/image127.htm
from completely disassemeled to stock in exactly one hour. you would think i've
done this before... :)
side note from stereo install: i was VERY pleased with the kicker 46m speakers.
they are designed to drop directly in place of the factory speakers, and they do
that very well. only minor trimming of the front grilles is required to clear
them. also, the magnets *just* clear the metal in the doors. also of note: they
have to be the best sounding free-air 4x6 speakers i've ever heard. i thought i
had a sub back there! (i only installed 4x6's all around, in place of the
factory speakers).
anyhow, thanks for reading/viewing, hope you enjoyed the show. sorry it wasnt
full of tube framed twin pics, but its coming... soon...
