Cylinder head gasket - removal & replacement
Yep, it's really no problem, as long as your back is good. I don't
like thinking about bending at the waist like that esp. with the extra
weight of the manifold.
AFA breaking it loose, a nice whap with a deadblow (sand-filled) hammer
might do it. Or just key the starter. Or wait overnight, sometimes
that does it.
If you're just fixing a blown gasket and nothing else, and want to get
on with life quickly, then leave the manifold on since you stand a very
good chance of breaking off at least one stud if you try to remove it.
If it ain't broke...
The PITA is getting it back on with the manifold attached. You don't
want the gasket sliding around between the head and the deck. For
this, get a friend to help, that's the easiest way. Both can lift and
set more accurately than one.
And *clean* *clean* *CLEAN* everything.
