funny noises after some timing belt work...
1. idle screws will comes out if the rubber ring at the
bottom gets tired/broken
2. 8v engine., pull the belt off, hand turn the cam
until the dot on the inside teh cam lines up with the
edge of the (front facing) valve cover then pop the
distributor cap off and look for a notch on the metal
edge near the end of the engine block, line the rotor
dead center on that puppy, next get a ratchet pull sprak
plug #1 (closest to passenger wheel well) and gently
drop a long shaft screwdriver until it sit on the head
of the pioston, grab that rachet and turn the crank
until the piston is at highest point in movement. slip
the belt back on whitou moving that distributor cam
(very easy to move that one) put your tensionner (better
yet get a new one I bet anything that is the source to
your whinning noise)back on... pull your timing light
out, flash the timing hole on the tranny and adjust the
advance (13mm nut under the distributor) until it is set
for TDC (dead center of fill hole.) tighten the
distributor and give her a turen over, check your idle
screw is not too tight in, or out... set idle.. and
enjoy, persoanlly I like my 8v to be at 2'-4' advanced
on tdc with slight right mix
