I firmly believe it's a combination of both....neither one would equate to
300K miles by itself.

Just a thought, do you think it's because these were cars bought by "car
people" who took decent care of them right from the get go? I mean things
like
oil changes/ oil quality that many "normal" people get lax about. Of course,
it may be superior engineering too...
