tires
So true. A really wide tire doesn't necessarily handle better than a
standard sized tire. As Dave pointed out, there are other things to
consider; namely, the forces that can result from too much leverage from
wide tires. Also, unless you have significantly wider rims (like Allyn on
the Rieger Scirocco), the tire won't get wider, it will get taller.
Before you make the decision that you need wider than normal tires, spend
your money on high quality tires. Right now you can get a great deal (sounds
like you could be looking at 16's?) on some phenomenal supercar tires for
your application: Bridgestone Potenza So-2 Pole Position & Dunlop Sport 9000
to name a few. I just drove a Nissan 240sx with the SR20 turbo engine and it
was riding on the new Falken Azenis (awesome grip and super low price-
summer tire only). Or you can go with an easy favorite, the Toyo Proxis
T1-S. Les Schwab doesn't let go of those for cheap though.
Just my thoughts,
Diamond Dave

Sure, but you'll be replacing wheel bearings on a regular basis. I have
seen some sickning wide tires (like they should have hydraulics on them) on
sciroccos but it will put a lot more strain on the bearings with the radical
offset you're talking about. No biggie for a weekender but not good for an
everyday driver in my opinion! Plus, that's not what were all about here!
Conservative looks but radically powered!!

Hey Guys
Was on the Scirocco.org site and read just about everything there is about
tires but there is nothing saying how wide of a tire I can put on the car.
The widest I have seen are 205 but is it possible to go wider without a
radical offset?
Any ideas?
Thanks
