Man, Tyler, something else we agree on!! I use to work at a Toyota =
dealership and from then on out I have liked Toyotas more than any other =
asian car. Look at the Lexus!! One of the top, if not the top, Luxury =
cars from Japan! Still think it's funny that people pay so much for a =
renamed Toyota though!! Just buy an Avalon, cheaper and VERY nice cars! =
And the Landcruiser!!! One of my favorites!! Old and New! Anyway, I =
still love VWs though and will probably for a long time. =20

Heck, my family has owned 3 Toyotas and I have never felt that they =
were light feeling. I feel that way about pretty much every new car =
except some German autos but we've had an 80 pickup, 84 Celica, and an =
82 or 84 Cressida. The Cressida was the only one with problems and that =
was all electircal. The Celica needed to be rolled twice before it was =
undrivable (the first roll hardly dented it), and the Pickup has hit so =
many things that it should have died long ago but its still running =
strong with close to 300,000 miles on the engine and that's with hardly =
ever changing oil (we kinda are waiting for it to die). The only asian =
cars I really don't like are honda's and acuras and thats mainly cause I =
find them uncomfortable and underpowered, overrated, and overriced. I =
think Toyotas have gotten ugly but they are still my favorite company of =
the 80's. Heck, the only reason that I bought a scirocco was because I =
was looking for a celica or supra hatchback and thought the scirocco =
looked just as cool. I still plan on getting an 84 Supra or something, =
as long as its the good looking hatch back. And I would argue with =
anybody who says that old toyota's have no character. =20

Anyone ever wondered why Japanese cars get all the really cool =
performance goodies? Limited slip differential (FWD & RWD), aluminum =
suspension parts, aluminum braking components, lightweight wheels, and =
small, efficient ancillary parts (radiators, alternators) are things =
that the German folk just don't get unless you go into the high $30K's.
Case in point. I'm a huge Nissan fan at the moment. A good friend of =
mine is doing phenomenal things with the SR20 engines. The SR20 (N/A and =
Turbo) is a performance engine I wish we had for sure. ~140hp aluminum, =
2L, with a 7300rpm redline. The engines come in several forms including =
one with variable valve timing. I just drove an SR20 powered '66 Datsun =
Roadster on a 1200 mile road trip to Mt Shasta (and Thunderhill =
Raceway); this was earlier this month when the temperatures were above =
110. On the fourth day of our trip I realized that it wasn't mandatory =
to chirp the tires into 3rd gear every time (although winding it out to =
it's re-mapped 7800rpm redline in 2nd gear was).
I also got some seat time in a 1990 240SX with 234k miles. It was =
the recent recipient of an SR20DET (s13) engine; ~200hp stock. That car =
was simply amazing. Well balanced and quick to say the least. The =
chassis itself was still in great condition and the interior was =
actually in decent shape.
If you can't respect the company, at least respect the machines.
