extended mileage oils
To get the definitive answer on the oil in your car send out a sample to be
analyzed:

it will tell you if the oil base has degraded and needs to be changed, and also
what is in the oil: metal type, dirt, coolant etc.
There are 3 grades of base stock for synthetic. Mobil 1 uses the lowest,
amsoil, redline, mobil delvac 1 synthetic, use the highest. FWIW mobil1 is
toast by 5-6k in my vehicles.
Some turbo diesel truck guys run a special filter setup that allows them to get
20-30k out of amsoil...
