Removing glass...how to w/o wrecking seals?
Well, there are a couple possible explanations for why we got that
windshield out. It didn't seem to be in there like it should have been to
begin with. It's possible the seals weren't very good. It is also an
aftermarket windshield, which might be cut slightly differently, though we
did get my cracked windshield in, so who knows. I haven't installed it on my
'77 yet, but will be within the next few weeks.
As Craig mentioned, the rest of the glass can be gotten out without
breaking. Just BE PATIENT and really look at the situation before and during
the attempt. Katie and I got pretty much everything out of the car using a
putty knife to get under the seal and pop it out. WD-40 helped some of the
seals break free. I'll let you know how it goes back together soon.
If you decide to do this, be ready to accept that this project will take at
10 times longer to accomplish than you think! I'm not kidding. It's a real
PITA. I've been working on my car since May last year. It was already mostly
disassembled (engine and interior) when I got it. It's still just a
shell...but at least it is now a good-looking shell. :)
Label EVERYTING. Organize EVERYTHING. Take digital pics of EVERYTHING. You
won't remember where that screw went 9 months later...trust me! If you don't
think it'll take 9 months, do it anyway, just in case it does.
