Fiberglass Hoods

I definitely see you're point of view. That's why I drive 'em, too!

I agree, but earlier you said you were on a budget and you were primarily of
a practical mind. All I said is that if you want to be practical and go as
fast as possible, as cheaply as possible, you don't buy a Scirocco. Mustangs
and Camaros are easier to find parts for, cheaper, and have MUCH more brute
power potential than our cars. A Scirocco street racer is like using a
screwdriver to pound a nail. It can be done, but it isn't practical. It's OK
though...I don't like Mustangs either. :)

Really? Where do you live, what kind of setup are you driving (dyno #s), and
who have you tried to race? No offense, but unless you're running NOS or a
turbo, it isn't too hard to beat a VW in a stoplight drag. Even the best 2.0
8v or 16v probably can't do much better than a 6-sec 0-60 sprint without
slicks. That's quick, but nowhere near unbeatable. A stock WRX or DSM-GSX
would eat that for breakfast even with a bad driver. A slightly-tuned
PonyCamaroBird should be able to smoke that too. That's not to mention
things like TT Supras and a 200+hp VTEC in an older (i.e. lighter) Civic or
CRX. There are a LOT of cars in Tampa that fit these descriptions. Sometimes
I still have fun with them just for the adrenaline rush, but I'd be lying if
I said I won even most of the time. My healthy but stock 16v is only good
for 105 at the wheels...not too impressive! My '77 should be much more fun,
but it'll still be built to turn more than go straight.

VW's are only good at drag racing if you've either done a LOT of crazy mods
or if you pick your competition very carefully :). OTOH, it makes you feel
that much better when you beat cars you shouldn't...
