wheel bearing woes
I'm going through this same problem myself, only I got luck and my local VW
shop full of hippies has the press. You can prollie make a make-shift
puller, but don't count on it doing much. Unless you have good luck, you
will find like I did, the bearings are the originals and arn't coming out
without a hell of a fight. I've already a system using 2 big vise's and a
steal rod just big enough to cover the bearing. Mine will have to be
pressed.
Don't know if I'd use a dremel, but then again, that noise will surly drive
you insane enough to use TNT if it's all you got laying around. I must say
that I find it hard to believe no one has a press. Check with local machine
shops if you haven't already, they may not have the exact kind of press, but
they may have something that works. An even check with the super crappy car
shops, if you saw my local VW shop, you'd think it was condemmed. Good luck
finding a solution, wish you were in SC closer to greenville, wouldn't be
too bad a trip here to Where I am in GA. I think it's only a 2.5 to 3 hour
trip.
