[tech] Q's on installation of used cam
I just got a used European spec intake cam, received it yesterday. I'm
pleased with it's condition, looks to be in great shape, all lobes have
consistent wear patterns, shape, etc. So, as soon as I find a free
evening, it's going into Victor, which has 145K miles.
I'd like to avoid replacing lifters but I'm needing info about
installing a used cam onto used lifters. Can I get away with this
relatively safely? Should I burnish the lifter tops and the lobes with
something to help oil retention and provide a "new" surface for the
parts to bed into (1000 grit sandpaper, Scotch-brite, etc.)?
I certainly will use assembly lube and follow the tried-and-true cam
break-in rules (vary the RPM, stay above 2000 for 1/2 hour, etc.).
TIA,
